Technorati

Maybe it's because it's Monday, but I almost gave up on Technorati. The flashing adds at the top and side of the screen advising me that I was a winner of some amazing prize, or would get 'ripped abs', if I clicked the link, didn't help either. I realise that the advertising helps to keep the site free but in this case I found the flashing adds distracting.

I tried searching the site without joining but seemed to be getting nowhere. So with what appeared to be particularly user unfriendly Captcha letters, I took several attempts to get them right, I joined. That's when I noticed the 'refine search' link and got more relevant search results. So I didn't need to join to search the site.

Once I found my way around I could see the usefulness of Technorati to help locate blogs on subjects of interest. I couldn't find mine, though. I decided not to claim it, but when I looked at the process I could see it was quite simple. If I was a serious blogger and wanted my blog to get noticed, I would definitely register it with Technorati.
